This is a block of brazillian favelas. It is entirely made from modular pieces, assets and other props. This was literally the first project I ever made in Cinema 4D, so there was a lot of learning-by-doing going on there.
First of all I made a sketch where I pinned down the structure for the final building and collected ideas for potential window and door designs. For the modeling part I started out with the very basic parts, such as the floor, the walls and the roof. I used those parts to build the a very basic version of the final construct, where I would add little by little more assets and details. Most of the textures and texture maps are from 'texturehaven.com' . Some of them needed some changes in terms of contrast, lightness and color, so I went over to Photoshop and adjusted them to fit my needs. The textures for the air condition and the fuse box are composed of images I created from scratch and some of the former mentioned existing textures. For the graffiti I went for the most part for that iconic pichação font style and hand painted all of them myself to give them a more organic and natural look. After adding some manual lightning for the night scene and a physical sky for the day I was pretty much ready for rendering.
